A Catholic parish was established in Tampere on September 3, 1957. Before that, the Catholics of Häme were served from Helsinki. Religious services were initially held at the Tammer Hotel and later at Emmaus. After the parish was founded, the priest’s house, chapel, and the sisters’ residence were located in an apartment building on Näsilinnankatu. The parish got its own church on November 22, 1969, when the Church of the Holy Cross, along with its parish hall, priest’s house, and other facilities, was consecrated in Amuri.
The parish includes Hämeenlinna and its surrounding areas, Pirkanmaa, Ostrobothnia, as well as Southern and Central Ostrobothnia.
