Paljon on tapahtunut Pyhän Ristin seurakunnassa viime kahden vuoden aikana. Pitkään toimineet SCJ-papit, isä Zenon Strykowski siirtyi Pyhän Marian seurakuntaan Helsinkiin ja isä Stanislaw Zawilowicz puolestaan Turun seurakuntaan. Tampereelle uudeksi kirkkoherraksi tuli allekirjoittanut ja kappalaiseksi vastavihitty isä Eze Charles Nwoko. Haluaisin jälleen kerran kiittää SCJ-pappeja heidän monivuotisesta palveluksestaan ja isä Ezeä tämänhetkisestä yhteistyöstä seurakunnassamme.
Muutos on aina haastavaa, varsinkin tämän vuoden aikana. Koronapandemian aiheuttamat poikkeukselliset olosuhteet ovat osoittaneet, mikä Kirkon merkitys on yhteiskunnallisessa kriisissä. Me kristityt voimme tukea ihmisiä ja yhteiskuntaa vahvistamalla luottamusta ja kannattelemalla toivoa. Ennen kaikkea voimme rukoilla paremman tulevaisuuden puolesta.
Minä ilmoitan teille ilosanoman, suuren ilon koko kansalle. Tänään on teille Daavidin kaupungissa syntynyt Vapahtaja. Hän on Kristus, Herra!” (Luuk. 2:10-11).
Jumala on kanssamme!
Seurakuntamme on saanut suuren avun jäsenmaksujen lisääntymisestä. Tämän avun tarve on aina ajankohtainen; varsinkin seurakuntamme talouden vakautta horjuttavat tulevien vuosien suuret remontit (vesikatto, käyttövesiverkostot, putkiremontti ja ilmanvaihto). Ilman teidän panostanne seurakunnan on mahdotonta tehdä hengellistä työtään. Suurkiitos kaikesta tuestanne ja anteliaisuudestanne!
Koko sydämestäni toivotan teille kaikille, rakkaille seurakuntalaisille ja teidän omaisillenne, oikein rauhallista joulua ja armorikasta uutta vuotta 2021! Kristus on toivomme ja ilomme!

Dear parishioners!
Much has happened in the Parish of the Holy Cross over the past two years. The long-serving SCJ priests, Father Zenon Strykowski moved to St. Mary's Parish in Helsinki and Father Stanislaw Zawilowicz to Turku Parish. The undersigned became a new parish priest and the newly ordained Father Eze Charles Nwoko became a chaplain in Tampere. Once again, I would like to thank the SCJ priests for their long service and Father Eze for his current ministry in our parish.
Change is always challenging, especially during this year. The exceptional circumstances caused by the corona pandemic have shown the importance of the Church in a social crisis. We Christians can support people and society by building trust and upholding hope. Above all, we can pray for a better future. During the restrictions, we have been able to broadcast our Mass celebrations live via the internet, and we are amazed at how many people have received spiritual help and support from this service. Even in this situation, we feel close to you and we have prayed a lot for all of you. The Lord also granted us grace to continue other pastoral activities. We have managed to arrange Bible circle, introductory and advanced catechetical course, women’s evenings, Masses for the elderly, children's clubs, catechism days, and retreats for parishioners to strengthen each other during this difficult time. I hope that the Masses in the diaspora (twice a month in Vaasa and Pietarsaari; once a month in Hämeenlinna, Seinäjoki and Kokkola; a couple of times a year in Humppila and Kristiinankaupunki) could help the parishioners living further away to live more actively in connection with God and with the Church.
Christmas is at the door, and we are preparing to leave this year and start a new one. We would like to thank the Lord for the past year and look hopefully to the future. Christmas invites us to hope and to joy. Hope arises from a memory full of goodness and the certainty that this will happen again. On Christmas Eve, we hear the words that have resonated for two thousand years: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2: 10-11) What the angel told the shepherds, the Church brings to us through the liturgy. I sincerely hope that our parish could also be the place where we can all draw this joy and bring it to our families, friends, and all the people we encounter.
It is difficult sometimes to be joyful. Yet joy is exactly what the Lord wants to bestow on us. St. Paul urges us to rejoice again, as he once wrote to the Philippians, “Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4). The source of true joy is only in God and His love, which shines most perfectly in Christ. He came to share our reality and carry our burdens with us. This is how Christmas has changed the course of human history permanently: God became flesh. Therefore, we cannot be afraid. We can hope and be sure that the Lord is indeed the Immanuel! God is with us! Let this proclamation resonate especially for those people who are sick and lonely. May the Lord be with them and comfort them always!
With this Christmas letter, I would like to thank all of you who, to the best of your ability, have been involved in supporting the activities of our parish. Many of you do so by paying a membership fee, donating money through the offertory collection, for example, or giving your contributions in work and through prayers for the benefit of the parish. We are very grateful for every gift and assistance! Our parish has received great help from the increase in membership fees. The necessity of this assistance is always actual, especially the major renovations (water roof, domestic water supply, plumbing repairs and ventilation) in the coming years will destabilize our parish economy. Without your generous input, it is impossible for the parish to do its spiritual work. Thank you very much for all your support and generosity!
With all my heart, I wish you all, dear parishioners and your relatives, a very peaceful Christmas and a gracious New Year 2021! Christ is our hope and our joy!
