Catholic Religion Classes in Vaasa 2024/2025
Dear parents, our Parish organizes the Catholic religion classes for school-aged children who live in Vaasa and the surroundings.
The teaching takes place in our chapel in Vaasa, on Rauhankatu -street 8 C 22.
Here are the dates of the Autumn 2024 and of the Spring 2025 -season for religious classes:
o Sat 10 of August 2024 * Sat 11 of January 2025
o Sat 07 of September * Sat 08 of February
o Sat 12 of October * Sat 08 of March
o Sat 09 of November * Sat 12 of April
o Sat 07 of December * Sat 10 of May
The children gather for teaching in these following groups:
Time: 10.00 – 12.00: All children who have not yet received the First Holy Communion.
Time: 12.00 – 12.45: Holy Mass for children and their parents
Time: 13.00 – 15.00: All children who have received the First Holy Communion.
The teachers are Aron Leppäviita, Mary-Jane Johansson, Nnanna Otuh, and Nguyen Tieu Phung. The instruction will be given in Finnish or in English. The parents and older siblings are welcome to be present during the Catechism classes. Any help is needed. There is also a need that someone prepares snacks for children. You can also bring your own snack for your child as well as for others.
The children will bring with them notebooks and writing instruments for the religion classes. Please, take also slippers for your child.
Dear parents, I sincerely hope, that you would bring your child for the teaching and explain to him/her how important is to learn about Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith. The instruction prepares your child for receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. The Catechism classes help you to strengthen in your child Catholic identity and self-confidence so much needed in the environment where your child is living daily. Please notice that Holy Masses are more often celebrated in the Vaasa chapel. On the same day of religion classes, we have Holy Mass at 12.00 and also at 16.00. The Masses are also celebrated on Sundays. Check mass-schedule from our chapel in Vaasa or from the Parish home page. I would like to emphasize that there is nothing more important in the process of growing in the Catholic faith than child's regular and pious participation in the Holy Mass together with his/her parents.
The expenses of the Catechism classes are largely covered by the parish. I only ask You, dear parents, if you can, to participate in those expenses by giving to the teacher 5 euros any time you bring your child for the Catechism classes. Thanks for the donation!
