Father Tri will become parish Priest in Tampere

Dear Brothers and Sisters, I have an important announcement to make: From the beginning of July this year the following change will take place in our parish: Father Stanislaw will go to Turku to serve there as an assistant priest in the Parish of Saint Bridget and Blessed Hemming. And I will go to Helsinki to serve as an assistant priest in Saint Mary's Parish.

Since the beginning on July, the new parish priest in our parish will be father Tri Nguyen and the assisting priest will be deacon Eze Charles Nwoko, who now serves in Turku. During the coming summer, he will be ordained priest.

I know well that for many of you this news is a big surprise. Also for us, priests, the departure from this parish isn’t easy, but such is the life of us, priests. We go where Christ calls us through the bishop's appointment. Let us take this decision in the spirit of faith.

I'm really happy and relieved for you, that Fr. Tri will be your new parish priest.

Paastonajan retretti Pyhän Ristin kirkossa 23.3.

Lauantaina 23. maaliskuuta Pyhän Ristin kirkossa järjestetään paastonajan retretti otsikolla Eukaristia elämämme lähteenä.

”Jeesus otti leivän, siunasi, mursi ja antoi sen opetuslapsilleen sanoen: Tämä on minun ruumiini, joka annetaan teidän puolestanne. Tehkää tämä minun muistokseni.”(Luuk. 22: 19)

Fastereträtt 23 mars

Lördagen den 23 mars hålls en fastereträtt i Heliga Korsets kyrka. Kl. 10.30 hålls en inledning på finska och därefter firas den heliga mässan kl. 11 (också på finska) och efter det är det tyst tillbedjan av altarets allraheligaste sakrament till kl. 14.45, då dagen avslutas med gemensam bön på finska. Tillfälle till bikt under adorationen (inte på svenska). I församlingssalen kan man läsa i tystnad och där serveras kaffe och te.

Lenten Retreat on March 23

On Saturday, March 23, a Lenten Retreat is held at Holy Cross Church in Tampere. The day begins with an introduction in FInnish at 10.30, followed by Mass in Finnish at 11 a.m. From 11.45 a.m. through 2.45 p.m. there is silent Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with opportunity for confession. The day ends with a joint prayer at 2.45. During the day, you can also read silently in the parish hall, where coffee and tea will be served.

New Year's Greeting from Holy Cross Church

Beloved brothers and sisters who belong to the Holy Cross Parish family: We the priests want to express our gratitude to God and to all of you for this past year. Soon, trusting in God's care, we will step into a new year and again we will continue our journeys in the direction of our heavenly home.

At the turn of the year, we experience more deeply the passage of time and how limited our world is. From the Bible we learn that everything that is in this world will end, with the exception of love. Love, which we can also give the name self-giving or sacrifice, is what gives us life. God, who is love, created us in his own image. If we remain in him, we will be able to love with unselfish love, and only then will our lives find the deepest meaning. By abandoning our selfishness, and ourselves we will come to a life that never ends, for it is then a life in God's love. We all learn how to love from Christ and practice it by loving each other. That is why we have a parish.

Beloved parishioners, thank you for your love of God, the Church and us, the priests, which you demonstrate in many different ways. We rejoice in the fact that we, together with you, are able to build up our parish. Our wish to you is that the love of God will fill your hearts during the New Year and throughout your lives.

Isä Zenon 50 v. 2.9.2018

Pyhän ristin kirkossa Tampereella vietetään sunnuntaina 2. syyskuuta kirkkoherran, isä Zenon Strykowskin 50-vuotissyntymäpäivää. Juhla alkaa klo 10.30 messulla, jossa isä Zenonin kanssa kiitämme Jumalaa hänen elämästään ja palvelutyöstään ja rukoilemme hänen puolestaan. Sen jälkeen jatkamme yhdessäoloa seurakuntasalissa kahvipöydän ääressä vapaamuotoisen ohjelman parissa. Tervetuloa!

Söndagen den 2 september firar kyrkoherde Zenon Strykowski SCJ sin 50-årsdag. Festligheterna inleds med en tacksägelsemässa kl. 10.30 och efteråt fortsätter festen i församlingssalen med fritt program. Välkomna!

On Sunday, September 2, we celebrate the fact that our parish priest, Father Zenon Strykowski SCJ, turns 50! We start with a Mass at 10.30 a.m. and then the celebrations continue in the Parish Hall. Welcome!

Seurakuntaneuvoston vaalit 2017

Hyvät seurakuntalaiset,

tämän vuoden marraskuun loppuun mennessä seurakunnassamme täytyy järjestää seurakuntaneuvoston vaalit. Ennen sitä seurakuntamme jäsenet voivat ilmoittautua ehdokkaaksi tai ilmoittaa toisen henkilön ehdokkaaksi, jos tämä kirjallisesti vahvistaa valmiutensa ehdokkaaksi. Pyydän siis teitä, rakkaat seurakuntalaiset, esittämään ehdokkaita vaaliin tai harkitsemaan ehdokkaaksi ryhtymistä.

Ehdokkaan tulee olla 18 vuotta täyttänyt, kirkon täydessä yhteydessä elävä henkilö, joka tunnetaan varmasta uskostaan, korkeasta moraalistaan ja harkitsevaisuudestaan.

Seurakuntalehdessä ja sakaristossa on lomakkeita ehdokkaan ilmoittamista varten. Oman lomakkeen voi myös tulostaa tästä. Täytetyt lomakkeet lähetetään postitse seurakuntamme kansliaan tai jätetään sakaristossa sijaitsevaan laatikkoon 29.10. mennessä.

Before that, members of the parish can present themselves as candidates or may present someone else, if that person states his/her readiness in writing. Therefore I ask you to present candidates for parish council or think about being a candidate yourself.

Församlingsrådsval 2017

Kandidatuppställningen inför församlingsvalet pågår under oktober och själva valet håll i slutet av november. Om du eller en lämplig församlingsmedlem som du känner vill ställa upp om kandidat i valet gäller det att fylla i en kandidatblankett. Kandidaten måste skriftligt bekräfta sin kandidatur. Kandidaten bör vara en ansvarsfull församlingsmedlem som har fyllt 18 år. Närmare uppgifter på finska och engelska.

Celebration and Farewell on October 22

On Sunday, October 22, we will celebrate 60 years of Holy Cross Parish. A Pontifical Mass with Bishop Teemu Sippo SCJ begins the festivites at 10.30 a.m, and then we continue our celebrations at the church coffee in the Parish Hall. Throughout the decades, since the autumn of 1957, the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood have been part of our community in Tampere. Their kindergarten opened on October 15, 1957, and since then they hae been an important part of our parish life, particularly through their prayers. This means we are also gratefully celebrating 60 years of the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood in Tampere, but we do this with tears in our eyes, as we must say goodbye to Sister Monica and Sister Theresa.

A good way of saying Thank You!

After the festivities Sister Monica and Sister Theresa will return to their native United States and their congregation's main house in O’Fallon, Missouri. We wish to show our gratitude to the Sisters by contributing to their airfare and the other costs of moving across the world.

A Word from the Parish Priest

Dear Parishioners

I thank you from my heart for your generosity toward our parish in prayer, works of love, as well as financial help. It is clear that our parish lives and grows from the strength of your activities.

I would like in this respect to present the financial situation of the parish. I am deeply grateful to all of you, who support our parish financially. On the strength of this – your self-sacrifice – the activities of our parish and given framework of its pastoral work have improved. For example, we have been able to obtain a place for a chapel in Vaasa and a small flat. Because the needs of the parish are continually increasing, we cannot stop there. To make certain the growth of the parish we need the regular support of all adult parishioners for the sake of the parish. At this time about a third of the adult parishioners aid the parish through the Sunday collections or through a bank transfers. Because the parish finances depend entirely on voluntary contributions, I ask that all adult parishioners who have an income make monthly contributions to the parish according to their possibilities.

Holy Cross parish covers a large geographical area.

It is good to keep in mind that our parish does not receive actual financial help from outside sources, but on the contrary supports the Church several times a year. This happens in the shape of Sunday collections to the Diocese or the Holy See. In addition because of the poor financial situation of the Diocese we have supported it at the request of our bishop this year with a one-time contribution of 10,000 euros.
